District Intelligence newsletters
Hi, Friends of Portland Public Schools:
Margaret Mead wrote: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
At Community & Parents for Public Schools (CPPS), it is our belief that in order to ensure a quality education for all children in Portland’s public schools, it is imperative that we foster and cultivate an active base of parents, business, and community members to work alongside the district. A grassroots partnership that is tenacious yet compassionate, focused yet flexible, serious yet fun – in times like these, we can do no less.
In order to ensure the success of these partnerships, we feel that communication will play a critical role. To that end, CPPS will begin distributing an occasional newsletter whose main goal is to provide timely and pertinent information about what is happening in Portland Public Schools. I would urge you to read the newsletter, share it with others, and create a dialogue.
We welcome your feedback, and we hope that this newsletter will be informative and relevant.
Thank you,
Doug Wells
Editor, CPPS District Intelligence

Dear CPPS Supporter,
We intended for this newsletter to be an update of the work we’re doing, but the recent Marysville School event has overshadowed everything else. Like all of you, we were deeply saddened that the building that housed the Marysville community was lost, [...]

As children and teachers all over the state head back to school, it’s an important reminder of our need to hold the line on funding for education – specifically, why we need to uphold the tax fairness measures in January.
These two measures protect funding for education, healthcare, and public safety while keeping the burden off [...]

You’ve probably heard that if the current state budget proposal gets adopted, Portland could lose up to 415 teachers and up to 28 days from the school year. This would be devastating. Fortunately, Portland is filled with parents and others who care about [...]
