CPPS Strategic Plan for 2009

Mission: CPPS is committed to building a sustainable network of diverse parent, family, and community voices to ensure a high quality education for all children in Portland Public Schools.

Membership and Leadership Development

Provide training for board and members

  1. Develop and require cultural competency training for board
  2. Develop training manual for board and members

Expand CPPS membership

  1. Add staff person responsible for membership development
  2. Formalize inclusion of members in projects

Improve governance

  1. Establish formal criteria for board members
  2. Intentionally recruit board members based on developed criteria
  3. Re-write and update bylaws

Public Education/Public Awareness

Raise visibility of CPPS in the community

  1. Develop a media campaign and strategy
  2.  Train board members to be effective advocates for CPPS

Improve internal operations

  1. Regular reports and updates on District activities
  2. Better document history and achievements

Provide information to the public

  1. More, regularly scheduled workshops and events to bring parents together
  2. Collaborate with other groups

Organizing and Advocacy

Build support for policies

  1. Identify key issues
  2. Promote intentional parent, family, and community involvement in decisionmaking at all levels

Collaborate with other groups/build relationships
