(Update 2/4/09) PLC flyers are now available in six languages: English, Spanish, Somali, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Russian.,

The CPPS 9th annual Parent Leadership Conference is coming together – now we need your help to get the word out there. Download the flyer in English here. Download the flyer in Spanish here. We are working to have it available in Vietnamese, Russian and Mandarin.

Below is the message we are using for PPS Pulse, our schools and other community organizations. Please use it for newsletters, listservs, and send it around to your own networks. Please encourage people to register and do so yourself!

We need volunteers to greet, help with registration, stand at the coffee table – send an email to Debbie@cppsportland.org  if you would like to help with these important tasks. We’re also looking for door prizes – something educational? Next week: workshop descriptions!

Free Parent Leadership Conference on 2/28 at da Vinci Middle School

Everyone who is interested in increasing parent and community involvement in our public schools is invited to participate in this year’s Parent Leadership Conference, to be held Saturday, February 28 at da Vinci Middle School. Organized by Community & Parents for Public Schools (CPPS) in cooperation with PPS, the event helps parents, families and community members learn effective strategies for supporting their students, school, and district.

Several workshops will be conducted in Spanish and one in Somali, with translation services available upon request in Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese and Mandarin. PPS Superintendent Carole Smith is a keynote speaker, along with a representative from the Mayor’s Office. The event is entirely free and includes childcare, a light breakfast, and lunch.

The doors will open at 9:00 AM, and the conference will begin at 9:30 and end at 1:30. Families can register for the conference and learn more about it at www.cppsportland.org/plc. For more information, please contact Debbie Gordon, conference coordinator, at Debbie@cppsportland.org.
